Swim Through Darkness - Christmas Eve

Swim Start Time 22:42

December 24 2020

Causeway Coast

Charity AWARE NI

Swim Distance 1.52km

Didn't swim last night because the north wind was raging. I don't like the north wind incase it brings in something from the river. There's often a lot of leaves and river water in a north wind close to shore so I think its safer not to swim those nights. There's been a few really bad north wind days this season.

The map from tonight is def wrong. My watch tracker doesn't seem to like being started when i'm in the water. I didn't return to shore like it suggests. There might be a couple of hundred yards in this map that weren't actually swam. I will make those up another night at the end. I took a camera tonight to try and record some fotage for you. It was so dark it didn't work, there's good sound but no picture really. I will maybe get someone to come film some night if its doable so you can see what its like out there.

Thank you for reading this far! Please if you have a few spare quid use it to help the charity AWARE NI via the link here.... https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/al-mennie

Info - I am swimming a total of 100km through the darkness, in the darkest and coldest months of the year off the North Coast of Ireland. My aim...to inspire those who may be struggling in dark times to keep going. I also aim to raise awareness and funds for the depression Charity Aware NI. We all face dark times in life at some point and it can be extremely overwhelming.

Safety - Please don't think that because I am doing this that you too should do this or something similar. I am very experienced in the sea with knowledge that is only gained through many years of exposure to the sea in all her moods. I have a safety and location system in place including continual contact with people on land every time I swim.
